| A melange of images were generated by the
Cerro Grande fire and its aftermath. From them was born the triptych "444"
and its accompanying poem/label.
The experience of evacuation and of the fire itself,
even for those of us to whom nothing actually "happened", induced
unexpected reactions. The creative act is a response; it expiates some of
those stresses and becomes part of the personal healing process.
Seeing and reading these works -- abstractions
of forest and fire, of endlessly repeated television coverage, and words
intended to distill perceptions and emotions-- may bring some understanding
to the viewer as well.
